Maria Jose Penaloza Bocanegra (she/her)
Hons BASc Applied Psychology in Human Behaviour IV
Drawing from my studies in psychology and my interest in counseling, joining the SVPRO Peer Educator team is a meaningful opportunity to apply theory to practice. A core focus is on both learning about trauma-informed approaches and educating peers to foster a campus environment rooted in empathy and clear communication. This role perfectly aligns with a passion for supporting mental well-being and promoting healthy relationships through knowledge and prevention.
Favourite self-care activity: Listening to old Colombian music, doing puzzles, and drink cinnamon tea.
Mya Cornacchia (she/her)
Hons Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour III
Hi! My name is Mya, and I’m so excited to be an SVPRO Peer Educator this year. I am currently in my third year of the Honours Biology and Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour program. In my free time, I love spending time with my roommates, trying new cafes and restaurants, and being outside! I truly believe that everyone deserves to feel safe–especially on campus, where students learn, live, build relationships, and discover themselves. As a peer educator, I hope to help foster a safe(r) campus environment and bring awareness to sexual and gender-based violence. I look forward to being part of such an amazing team!
Puja Gajjar (she/her)
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be part of the SVPRO Peer Educator team. I’ve had the privilege of working with other student initiatives focused on promoting accessible sexual health education. Through that work, I’ve seen how empowering it can be, but I’ve also learned how many barriers and challenges students face when seeking information or support.
Because of that, I’m really looking forward to learning from SVPRO’s approach and helping create safe(r) spaces where students feel supported, informed, and respected. I hope to contribute to conversations around sexual health, consent, and the many factors that shape people’s experiences, and to help ensure students feel supported every step of the way!
Stephanie Henry (she/her)
I am passionate about student-facing advocacy and encouraging students to engage in conversation and being open to learning more about the importance of creating safe(r) spaces on campus and beyond. I’m looking forward to working with SVPRO to build onto my current knowledge and skillsets throughout the academic year.
Favourite self-care activity: Journaling, hiking, kickboxing and cafe hopping!
Parto Moghimi (she/her)
Honours BA Justice, Political Philosophy & Law II
I’m really excited to be part of the SVPRO Peer Educator team this year and to help make our campus a more respectful and supportive space. In this role, I’m interested in moving beyond surface-level conversations about consent and examining the everyday norms and power dynamics that shape how we understand relationships, boundaries, and harm. For me, prevention work means being open to honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations and encouraging people to think more critically about the assumptions we carry. I hope to help create discussions that feel genuine, thoughtful, and engaging for students, while continuing to learn alongside the community as we do this work.
Favourite self-care activity: Binge-watching a Netflix show
Kiran Oberai (they/he)
Arts & Sciences Level III
I am super excited to be a part of SVPRO and support their work to combat gender-based and sexual violence. I believe that we all must be involved in building communities and cultures free of violence, hate, and discrimination. Through my involvement with the Pride Community Centre, I’ve come to see just how important student advocacy and support is to make universities a more inclusive space. Everyone deserves to feel safe, welcomed, and able to be their authentic selves on campus, and I’m thrilled to work with an amazing team of students on SVPRO to make that a reality on campus.
Favourite self-care activity: Rewatching my staple TV shows!
